Here in Louisiana, we know all too well how hurricanes and storms can have a devastating impact on our communities – especially for ALICE individuals & families. These families work hard, but are already stretched thin, and unable to afford the extra costs of recovering from a disaster.

1. What is the Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund?
The Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund is a disaster response initiative by Capital Area United Way. It aims to provide immediate relief and long-term recovery assistance to households impacted by hurricanes in our 10-Parish service area, with a focus on ALICE families who are especially vulnerable during disasters.
2. Who are ALICE families?
ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These families work hard but often live paycheck to paycheck, unable to afford the extra costs of storm preparation or recovery.
3. How can I contribute to the Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund?
You can make a donation to support our relief and recovery efforts HERE or mailing a check to the address below:

4. What will my donation support?
All donations to the Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund will go directly toward:
- Immediate disaster relief efforts, such as providing food, supplies, and emergency financial assistance.
- Long-term rebuilding efforts, including support for recovery groups that focus on meeting unmet needs in impacted communities.
- Partner organizations that deliver direct services to those in need.
5. How does Capital Area United Way support Relief & Recovery following a disaster?
United Way has a proven track record in disaster response. After Hurricane Ida, CAUW invested $1,150,000 into St. James Parish through 14 Hurricane Ida Grants. $67,000 were also invested into affected parishes through 6 Community Responsiveness Grants in 2021.
6. Can I access resources if I’ve been impacted by the storm?

7. What makes CAUW's disaster response unique?
Capital Area United Way takes a holistic approach to disaster recovery. We focus on both immediate relief and equitable, long-term recovery. By partnering with local governments, businesses, and community organizations, we ensure that all affected households, especially the most vulnerable, receive the help they need.
8. Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, all donations to the Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund are tax-deductible. After making a contribution, you will receive a receipt for your records.
9. How long will the Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund be active?
The Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund will remain active as long as there are recovery needs following current hurricanes and storms. United Way is committed to supporting both immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts.
