Make a difference right here in our community - VOLUNTEER!
A United Way volunteer is a big part of the solution. From teenagers participating in summer community service projects in the UW Youth Volunteer Corps, to college students actively engaged in social change efforts through Student United Way, to individuals and corporate teams coming together as readers, tutors, and mentors or during one of our annual Days of Service, you become a critical asset of human capital through the leverage of your time and talent.
Ways to get involved
- Corporate Volunteering: A company or organization can encourage their employees to volunteer for a United Way committee, Community Investment Volunteer, or join in on a day of volunteering or organize your own. For more information about corporate volunteering, contact Sarah Haneline, Vice President of Resource Development, at firstname.lastname@example.org
- Youth Volunteer Corp (YVC): YVC promotes a lifetime service ethic in young people from ages 11-18 years old. For more information click here.

Nominate a Volunteer
The Power of 9 Awards celebrates the spirit of volunteerism by spotlighting an individual or group of volunteers in our community. In partnership with WAFB Channel 9 and sponsored by Capital One Bank, we support these heroes in our community by honoring one (or more) special volunteers each month, featured on a segment produced and aired by WAFB. In addition, we recognize all the Power of 9 recipients and highlight the organizations with which they volunteer at a banquet held each January. For more information about the Power of 9 and to nominate someone click here.
