Tocqueville Society

What is the Tocqueville Society?

Initiated in March 1984 by Untied Way of America and adopted in June 1985 by Capital Area United Way, The Tocqueville Society was founded on the principle of individual financial leadership to address community needs.

As the Society has grown, so have its objectives. Today the focus is to harness the resources necessary to create lasting improvements in our community and its peoples' lives. The constant thread throughout the years remains a commitment to the highest standard of leadership excellence - to step up to help those most in need.

The outstanding individuals who make up the membership of the Society embody the spirit of Alexis de Tocqueville, a French political scientist and statesman, whose observation was that Americans gave generously in times of need and exhibited a voluntary spirit that lives on in American hearts still today.

What is the Tocqueville Society Award?

Each year the Tocqueville Society honors an individual for extraordinary commitment and service to the community - one whose leadership creates a major impact on numerous lives and inspires others to accomplish the same. The Tocqueville Society recognizes their involvement, values their devotion, and applauds their achievements.
